The MG Windsor EV became India’s
best selling electric car in 2025
with over 50000 units sold in just
13 months — the fastest any EV has
achieved this milestone in India.
In 2026 it continues to dominate
India’s EV sales charts. Here is
our complete honest review.
Why Windsor EV Became India’s
Best Selling EV
The Windsor EV succeeded because
it offered something no other EV
did at launch — a massive 15.6
inch touchscreen 135 degree
reclining rear seats and a
panoramic glass roof at a price
that shocked the market. It
combined premium features with
accessible pricing in a way that
Indian buyers had never seen
before in an electric car.
Design
The Windsor EV has a distinctive
modern design with connected LED
lighting elements flush door
handles and 18 inch alloy wheels.
It looks premium and contemporary
without being too polarising. The
large glasshouse gives excellent
visibility and the infinity view
panoramic roof makes the cabin
feel significantly more spacious.
The 15.6 Inch Touchscreen
This is the Windsor EV’s party
piece. The largest touchscreen
of any car in its price range
dominates the dashboard and
controls virtually everything
from climate to driving modes.
It supports wireless Android Auto
and Apple CarPlay and works
smoothly in daily use. Some buyers
find the lack of physical buttons
for basic functions like fan speed
frustrating but most adapt quickly.
Interior and Rear Seat Experience
The Windsor EV’s cabin is genuinely
spacious and premium feeling for
its price. The standout feature
is the 135 degree reclining rear
seats — unique in this segment —
that allow rear passengers to
recline almost flat for long
journey comfort. Combined with
rear AC vents 256 colour ambient
lighting and ventilated front
seats the interior experience
rivals cars costing significantly
more.
Boot space of 604 litres on the
38kWh variant is class leading
making it surprisingly practical
for a crossover of this size.
Battery and Range
The Windsor EV comes with two
battery options in 2026. The
standard 38kWh battery delivers
332km claimed range suitable
for most urban users doing under
150km daily. The Pro variant’s
52.9kWh battery delivers 449km
claimed range making it capable
of comfortable long distance
travel across India.
Real world range owners
consistently report approximately
280km from the 38kWh battery
and 380km from the 52.9kWh
battery in mixed driving
conditions.
Performance
The 134bhp electric motor
delivers smooth instant power
from standstill making it feel
quick and responsive in city
traffic. Three driving modes —
Eco Eco Plus and Sport — allow
you to balance performance and
range based on your needs.
The adjustable regenerative
braking makes slow city driving
significantly easier.
Charging
The base variant gets a 3.3kW
AC charger that takes
approximately 14 hours for a
full charge. Higher variants
get a 7.4kW AC charger that
reduces this to 9.5 hours.
DC fast charging at 60kW
charges from 20 to 80 percent
in approximately 50 minutes
on the Pro variants.
Level 2 ADAS
The Windsor EV Pro gets level
2 ADAS with adaptive cruise
control lane keep assist
automatic emergency braking
and blind spot detection.
This is rare at this price
point and works well in
Indian driving conditions.
Price and Value
The MG Windsor EV starts at
₹14 lakh for the standard
38kWh variant going up to
₹18.50 lakh for the fully
loaded Essence Pro with
52.9kWh battery. MG is
currently offering benefits
of up to ₹85,000 in May 2026
making it even better value.
The One Concern — Service Network
MG’s service network while
expanding is still significantly
smaller than Tata’s. Outside
major metros finding an MG
service centre can be
inconvenient. Check the nearest
MG service centre before buying
if you live outside a major city.
Verdict
The MG Windsor EV deserves
its position as India’s best
selling electric car. It offers
a genuinely premium cabin
experience the largest
touchscreen in its class
unique reclining rear seats
and a massive boot at a price
that makes it one of India’s
best value cars regardless of
fuel type. If you are buying
an EV under ₹20 lakh the
Windsor EV should be on your
shortlist.
