Engine Options
The 2026 Hector Plus is currently
available with the 1.5 litre
turbo petrol producing 143bhp
and 250Nm — available with
6 speed manual or CVT automatic.
The 2.0 litre diesel producing
170bhp and 350Nm with manual
transmission was the more
popular variant and is expected
to return later in 2026.
The petrol CVT is smooth and
refined for city driving delivering
12 to 13 kmpl in mixed conditions.
The diesel manual is significantly
more economical at 15 to 16
kmpl on highways making it
the preferred choice for buyers
who do significant highway
driving.
Seven Seat Experience
The Hector Plus offers both
6 and 7 seat configurations.
The 6 seat version with captain
chairs in the second row is
more comfortable for adult
passengers. The 7 seat version
maximises capacity but second
row comfort is reduced.
The third row is small — best
for children on shorter journeys.
Boot space with all three rows
up is just 155 litres — this
is the Hector Plus’s main
practical weakness. Fold the
third row and boot space expands

remains a concern for safety
conscious buyers — the Tata
Safari and Hyundai Alcazar with
their proven safety ratings
are stronger choices if crash
test results are your priority.
Honest Limitations
The 1.5 litre turbo petrol
is underpowered for the Hector
Plus’s size — particularly
noticeable on steep climbs
or highway overtaking with
a full load of 7 passengers.
The diesel’s absence currently
removes the most practical
powertrain from the lineup.
MG’s service network while
expanding is still significantly
smaller than Tata Hyundai and
Maruti — a genuine concern
for buyers outside major metros.

The Hector Plus starts at
₹17.29 lakh for the base
Sharp Pro 7 seater petrol
manual going up to ₹19.69
lakh for the top Savvy Pro
CVT automatic. The diesel
variants when they return
are expected to top out at
approximately ₹21 lakh.
Against the Mahindra XUV 7XO
at similar pricing the Hector
Plus wins on feature count
and touchscreen size while
losing on engine power and
overall build quality. Against
the Hyundai Alcazar it wins
on features and price while
losing on safety ratings and
Hyundai’s service network.

loaded 7 seater under ₹20
lakh in India. If maximum
technology features the 14
inch touchscreen and a
competitive price are your
priorities the Hector Plus
delivers an unmatched value
proposition. If safety ratings
service network and driving
dynamics matter more choose
the Tata Safari or Hyundai
Alcazar instead.
