Mahindra launched the XEV 9S
on November 27 2025 making it
India’s first truly practical
7 seater electric SUV. Based
on the iconic XUV700’s body
and Mahindra’s INGLO electric
platform it combines the XUV700’s
proven spacious cabin with
state of the art electric
technology. Starting at ₹19.95
lakh with up to 679km claimed
range it is one of the most
exciting and valuable EVs
available in India. Here is
our complete review.
Why XEV 9S Is Significant
The XEV 9S solves a problem
no other Indian EV has addressed —
genuine 7 seat practicality
in an electric SUV under ₹30
lakh. Most electric SUVs in
India are 5 seaters. The XEV 9S
offers a usable third row that
makes it relevant for Indian
families who regularly travel
with extended family. It
combines this practical advantage
with Mahindra’s INGLO platform’s
long range and fast charging
credentials.
Design
The XEV 9S retains the XUV700’s
familiar and beloved design
with EV specific updates.
Connected LED DRLs with LED
headlamps flanking a blanked
off grille 18 inch aero
optimised alloy wheels and
XEV 9S lettering below the
number plate create a clean
premium electric identity.
The rear gets new LED tail
lamps with hexagonal detailing.
Available in six colours —
Stealth Black Ruby Velvet
Everest White Desert Myst
Midnight Black and Nebula Blue —
it offers the most colour
choices of any EV in its
price range.
Platform and Battery
The XEV 9S is built on Mahindra’s
INGLO platform with an LFP
battery mounted in the floor
powering a rear axle motor.
Three battery options are
available — 59kWh 70kWh and
79kWh. ARAI claimed range
is 521km 600km and 679km
respectively — the longest
range figures of any 7 seater
electric vehicle available
in India.
Real world range at 480km
for the 79kWh variant in
mixed Indian conditions makes
it genuinely practical for
long distance family travel
between cities.
Performance
The rear mounted motor produces
231bhp and 380Nm delivering
smooth confident performance.
The rear wheel drive layout
gives it a naturally balanced
character. 20 minute fast
charging from 20 to 80 percent
on a 175kW charger makes
long distance trips practical
with minimal charging stops.
Interior — 7 Seats Done Right
The XEV 9S uses the XUV700’s
well proven 7 seat layout with
meaningful improvements enabled
by the EV platform’s flat floor.
The completely flat floor improves
second and third row legroom
compared to the XUV700’s
transmission tunnel. The triple
12.3 inch screen setup with
passenger entertainment display
16 speaker Harman Kardon Dolby
Atmos audio dual zone climate
control ventilated seats and
panoramic sunroof create a
genuinely premium cabin experience.
The Boss Mode lets rear passengers
move the front passenger seat
forward for more legroom. The
third row while modest in size
is usable for shorter adults
on journeys under 2 hours —
significantly better than
most other affordable 7 seater
options.
Safety
5 star Bharat NCAP safety
rating 7 airbags Level 2 ADAS
540 degree camera system
electronic stability control
and comprehensive passive
safety make the XEV 9S genuinely
safe for family use.
Price and Variants
The XEV 9S starts at ₹19.95
lakh for the Pack One Above
59kWh going up to ₹29.45
lakh for the Pack Three Above
79kWh. The pricing undercuts
the equivalent XEV 9e by
approximately ₹1 to ₹2 lakh
across variants — extraordinary
value considering the 7 seat
advantage.
On the first day of bookings
the XEV 9S combined with the
XUV 7XO generated 93,689
bookings with a booking value
exceeding ₹20,500 crore —
confirming the extraordinary
demand.
XEV 9S vs Rivals
Against the Tata Safari EV
launching later in 2026 the
XEV 9S has the first mover
advantage with proven real
world ownership data building
up. Against the Kia Carens
Clavis EV the XEV 9S wins
on range and performance
while the Clavis EV wins
on Kia’s service network.
Against the XEV 9e the XEV
9S wins on 7 seat practicality
while the 9e wins on coupe
styling and a longer wheelbase.
Who Should Buy The XEV 9S
The XEV 9S is perfect for
families who need 7 seats
and want to go electric buyers
who frequently travel long
distances with extended family
buyers who want Mahindra’s
INGLO platform proven range
credentials in a familiar
XUV700 bodystyle and anyone
wanting the most range of
any 7 seater EV under ₹30
lakh in India.

most practical electric vehicle.
